How to Maintain Corian

Corian is a brand of solid-surface polymer that's popular for use in cost-effective kitchen and bath countertops and sinks. This Dupont product comes in three finishes: matte/satin, semi-gloss or high-gloss. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Thoroughly dry Corian countertops after every cleanup or spill. If liquid is left standing on the surface, a residue will eventually appear, dulling the surface and creating uneven blotches. Rinse it with water and wipe the surface immediately after applying any cleaner. Use absorbent paper towels rather than a noncotton or linen dishtowel to ensure even dryness.

    • 2

Wipe out everyday stains with common household cleaners, soapy water or ammonia-based cleaners. Don't use window cleaners, which flatten the finish. Do not rub with abrasive materials. Remove hard water patterns with Lime-A-Way or CLR. Rinse and dry all cleaning materials off the surface.

    • 3

Remove minor scratches from Corian surfaces by applying a small dab of mild abrasive, like SoftScrub, onto a damp cloth, but never directly onto the surface. Rub out minor scratches or stubborn residue using a circular motion. Thoroughly rinse off the cleaner with water and dry the surface completely.

Tips & Warnings

  • Before you attempt to refinish Corian surfaces on your own, consult a professional kitchen expert or the product manufacturer.

  • Always use a cutting board when preparing food on Corian.
