How to Remove Cat Urine From Wooden Furniture

Save

Cat urine leaves a strong, unpleasant odor. This can be very upsetting if the cat has urinated on your wood furniture. Simply wiping up the urine does not eliminate the smell, because cat-urine odor is stubborn. Some commercial cleaners just mask the odor and not very effectively at that. A few other methods are worth a try.

Things You'll Need

  • Oil soap
  • Water
  • Soft cloth
  • Pure orange oil
  • White vinegar
  • Dish washing liquid
  • Baking soda
  • Pet-odor removal kit
  • Clean the wooden furniture with a mixture of oil soap and warm water according to directions on the label. Dry the area thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth, and then polish the wood with pure orange oil, as citrus can eliminate many odors. This method is most likely to work if you discovered the cat urine very quickly.

  • Use a vinegar solution if the oil soap and orange oil did not work. Mix one part white vinegar and one part warm water, and add a squirt of dish washing liquid. Apply the solution with a soft cloth and allow it to dry. Rinse with water and dry with a clean cloth. Pour baking soda over the area and leave it on for at least three hours to absorb any remaining odor. You may need to repeat this procedure a few times.

  • Purchase a pet-odor removal kit that is safe to use on wood. These are available at some pet stores, department stores and online retail shops. Use according to directions.
