How to Spell Out Directions on Wedding Invitations

If you are making your own wedding invitations, it is important to understand the etiquette and grammar of spelling out directions and other items. These rules will serve you well because they are not just for weddings. Any formal event may require invitations, and these rules will give you the skills for writing any type of invitation.

Instructions

1. Spell out all words in the address including street, road, court, and avenue.

2. Use the abbreviation St. for saint and the Mt. for mount. These are the only two exceptions to the no-abbreviations rule.

3. Write out your guests' names in full, including their middle names. If the middle name is unknown, leave it out entirely.

4. Use Roman numerals when they appear in your guests' names instead of writing out the word or using the nominal figure.

5. Spell out the full date of the wedding, for example Sunday the sixteenth of August two thousand and ten.
