1
Begin by scraping the current caulk from around the sink using the flat side of a razor blade or a professional caulk scraping tool available at hardware and DIY stores. If you are installing a new drop-in sink, you probably won't have any old caulk to remove.
-
2
Wipe the sink clean with a warm, damp cloth to remove any remnants of caulk. Allow the sink and the surrounding countertop to dry completely before proceeding to the next step.

3
Purchase a caulk specifically made to work on bathroom and kitchen sinks. The caulk can be white or another color that matches the bathroom. Be sure to check the label to make sure the caulk is mildew- and mold-proof. Be sure to get a caulking gun (a metal holder that holds the caulking tube) to make the process easier.
-
4
Put the caulk in the caulking gun as shown on the label, and snip off the tip with a pair of scissors or a utility knife. Press gently on the end of the gun to make sure the caulk comes out the tip. Wipe excess caulk away with a damp rag.
-
5
Place the tip of the caulk at the back of the sink behind the faucets so the tip lies directly between the edge of the sink and the countertop. Hold the caulking gun at an elevated angle for easy maneuvering.
-
6
Push down on the end of the caulking gun at the same time you bring the gun forward, tracing around the perimeter of the sink. Work in a continuous line, not stopping until you reach the beginning of the caulking bead at the back of the sink.
-
7
Dip a paper towel in water, and wrap it around your finger. Use it to press down on the caulking bead, creating a smooth finish. Take your time as you go all the way around the rim of the sink in one continuous motion.
-
8
Allow the caulk to set completely before using the sink. Follow manufacturer's instructions in regard to how long the caulk will take to dry.
