How to Put Wax on a Skim Board
Applying wax to your skim board is an important aspect of the sport because it ensures that your feet do not move around when you are in the water. Knowing what kind of wax to use on your board really depends on the climate in which you plan to use your skim board. The temperature of the water is noted directly on the wax when you buy it (e.g., cold, cool, warm, tropical) at a surf shop or on a surf website.
Things You'll Need

- Climate appropriate wax
Instructions

1
Clean the top of the board by scraping off the old wax with a scraper. Melt the remaining wax with a hair dryer and wipe it off with an old rag.
-
2
Apply a base coat with high-temperature wax (no matter what temperature wax you are using for the top coat). Rub the wax in a circular motion from the top to the bottom of the board.

-
3
Apply a second base coat by going straight up an down the length of the board and a third by going from side to side.
-
4
Rub the climate-appropriate wax over the base coats by using the same circular motion that you used for the first base coat. If this is done correctly, you will end up with a series of bumps over the entire board. This will help your feet stay put while using the board.
