How to Paint a Bathroom With Semi Gloss
Painting a bathroom can be a challenge, particularly if the room is small. Cabinets and fixtures create tiny strips that are difficult to see. You must work around toilets, tubs and other immovable objects. Semi-gloss paint is especially challenging to work with as the paint can highlight small imperfections in the wall surfaces, ceilings or trim. Carefully plan the project and purchase all materials in advance. Prepare the room and all surfaces to make the job easier and less time-consuming. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Choose your paint colors. Dark colors can make a large bathroom seem less imposing while lighter colors visually open up a small room. White is a frequently used color for molding and other trim but is not the only choice. Consider painting the trim a brighter version of the wall color to add contrast.

Prepare the room. Remove wall hangings, outlet covers and hardware. Use heavy-duty painter's drop cloths to cover the toilet, sink, tub and other furnishings. Do not use plastic sheeting, which can slip or tear. Use painter's tape along the edges of mirrors, medicine chests and other objects that you cannot remove.

Prepare the walls and trim. Semi-gloss paint highlights imperfections. Completely remove flaking paint with a paint scraper. Patch holes and sand smooth. Wash off surface dirt, and dust with a damp rag. Use a paint roller to apply a thick, even coat of interior primer. Allow it to dry overnight.

Use a brush to apply paint in areas that a roller cannot reach. Feather the edges to avoid harsh lines. Use a paint roller to apply paint to large wall surfaces. Work in a "V" or "W" formation for best results. Complete an entire wall before taking a break. Slightly overlap each stroke to avoid lap lines. Step back occasionally to check for drips, runs or thin spots. Allow it to dry overnight, and add a second coat of paint if needed.

5
Paint the trim. Use a wide brush to apply paint in the direction of the wood grain. Work quickly but carefully, avoiding runs and drips.

6
Remove the painter's tape as soon as the paint is dry. Wait three days before replacing outlet covers and other hardware. Avoid showering or running hot water in the bathroom for three days to allow the paint to fully set.
