How to Use Sesame Seeds
When the pod containing sesame seeds matures it bursts open with a pop. Learning how to use sesame seeds is just about that easy. Healthy cooking does not have to mean boring cooking, which is the best reason to learn how to cook with nuts and seeds. Sesame seeds have a mild flavor that is enhanced by toasting them. Pour some olive oil on a paper towel and wipe it over the bottom of your frying pan to coat it. Heat the pan over medium heat for no more then 10 to 20 seconds and then add enough sesame seeds to cover the bottom of the pan. Stir them with a wooden spoon while they cook, watching their color carefully. As soon as they start to turn brown--it only takes one to two minutes--remove the pan from the heat. Let them cool and store them in an airtight jar.

Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds onto steamed vegetables and add freshly squeezed lemon juice.

Sprinkle raw sesame seeds into bread dough and on top of the loaf before baking.

Mix raw sesame seeds with dried coriander flakes and dried garlic flakes to make a delicious coating for chicken and fish.

Put toasted sesame seeds, garbanzo beans, olive oil and a clove of garlic into a food processor or blender and whirl until smooth for a nice spread. Add lemon juice to taste.

Sprinkle a handful of toasted sesame seeds onto hummus. Add a sprinkle of paprika and a drizzle of olive oil and serve with toasted pita bread or cut vegetables.
