No matter what the police are called for, you should always ask for the business card of the responding officer.

1. Call the number listed on the business card of the responding officer.

2. Explain to the office about the accident you were in to jog his/her memory and then ask how to obtain the police report. If the officer doesn't answer, leave a detailed message with the time, date, location, your name, and number at which you can be reached.

3. Call your local courthouse and ask the clerk how you can obtain a copy of the police report if the officer can't help. You may be required to drive to the courthouse to pick up a copy of the report. There may also be a fee. Bring cash.
