How to Prepare a Deposit Slip
Learning the ins and outs of banking is a valuable asset to people as they become adults. Once you open a checking or savings account, you will at some point need to deposit cash or checks into your account. To do this, you'll need to fill out a deposit slip to hand in with whatever you're depositing. At first glance, a deposit slip may seem daunting. However, once you learn the specifics of filling out the deposit slip, you will find it is a fairly easy process that gets simpler every time.

1
Take a deposit slip from your bank's deposit slip location. Usually this is near the front of the bank so that customers can fill slips out first thing. Double-check that it says deposit slip somewhere on it. You may also use deposit slips located in the back of your check book.
-
2
Fill out your name and address in the upper left hand corner of the deposit slip. The top line is where your name as it appears on your bank account should go. Beneath that, input your address, including city, state and ZIP code. If you are using a deposit slip from your checkbook, this part should already be filled out. Beneath the address section, fill in that day's date.

3
Sign your name on the line beneath the date if you wish to have cash back from your transaction. If you only want to deposit your money and do not need cash back, you don't have to sign this line.
-
4
Fill in your bank account number in the area in the lower left hand that is labeled "Account Number." Your bank account number is located on your bank statements, or within your checkbook if you don't have it memorized. For deposit slips that come from the back of your checkbook, your account number is already filled in.
-
5
Input the amount of cash you are depositing in the first line at the top right hand side of your deposit slip. If you are not depositing any cash, do not put anything on this line.
-
6
Input the amount of any checks you are depositing in the next lines beneath the cash deposit line. On the left hand side, input the check number. On the right hand, fill out the dollar amount of the check. Do this for each check you are depositing. If you need to fill in more checks than there is space for on the front, flip the deposit slip over and fill out the lines there.
-
7
Add up the total amount of your cash and check deposits and fill this number into the line marked "Subtotal." If you need to, use a calculator for this part to be completely accurate and prevent potential bank errors.
-
8
Enter the amount of cash back you would like to receive from your transaction in the line below the subtotal. If you do not want any cash back, leave this line blank.
-
9
Subtract the cash back amount from the subtotal. Fill this number into the space marked "Total."
