How to Give a Man a Fade
A "fade" or "faded" haircut is a short hairstyle for men that decreases in length as it moves toward the man's shoulders. This decrease occurs gradually, as if the hair "fades" away. A bad fade haircut looks like the hair fades in levels or steps. A fade requires a moderate amount of skill with clippers to pull off, but can be performed with ordinary haircut equipment. Learning to give a fade yourself can save money. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Wet the man's hair and wrap the towel around his neck. Place the chair in a room with plenty of space and have him sit down.
-
2
Attach a larger guard to the clippers and begin slowly, moving the clippers upward. Start around his ears or where his hair ends at the bottom of his neck. If the guard on the clippers is leaving his hair too long, switch to a smaller one.

3
Determine where you want the fade to be. Execute the fade in a line around the head that remains parallel to the ground. For example, if it starts 1 centimeter above the left ear, it should finish 1 centimeter above the right ear.

4
Flick your wrist toward you along this imaginary line with the clippers. Use this flick to shear the hair off at an angle from the skull. This creates the fade.

5
Move the guard size down again after you've done this and create a second fade below the first one, this time fading into skin. Use trimmers to clean up the neck line and the sideburns.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure to get clippers with at least five guard sizes. Start with the largest. If you mess up, you can just switch to a smaller size and try again with a shorter haircut.
