How to Report a Suspicious Person to Homeland Security

If you are suspicious that a person may be breaking the law or may be doing or planning to do harm to others---and your suspicions are legitimate---you can report that person to the proper authorities. Crimes or threats of great significance, like criminal activity, terrorist activity or immigration violations, may warrant a report to Homeland Security if your suspicion is within reason.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) website and navigate to the "Report Incidents" page.

    • 2

Determine what type of crime you wish to report. If it is criminal or terrorist activity, your report must be submitted to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). If you are reporting immigration or custom violations, report to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

    • 3

Click on Local FBI Field Offices if you wish to report your criminal or terrorist activity suspicions in person. Otherwise, use the online form for FBI Tips and Public Leads to fill out your report.

Call ICE at the number listed on the DHS website to phone in your immigration or customs violation report. There is no online form to complete to report a suspect.
