How to Restore Pitted Headlight Lenses

Clear plastic headlight lenses cover the headlight bulb. Pitted headlight lenses are discolored and hazy due to basic wear and tear and scratches. Cloudy lenses prevent your headlights from shining brightly on the road. Cleaning your lenses is much cheaper than purchasing new lenses, which could cost $50 or more depending on the car model. Restoring your headlight lenses is an easy process and is a must when you are detailing your car. Your lenses will be free of scratches and any hazy coloring and look brand new.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the buffer attachment into the standard drill. Apply a quarter-size drop of headlight lens cleaner onto the buffer pad. Any brand of headlight lens cleaner will work, such as Meguiar's or 3M. The small buffer works better on a headlight lens compared to a regular sized car wax buffer, which would not be able to buff every curve of the lens.

    • 2

Place the buffer pad on the headlight lens and turn on the drill. Buff the cleaner into the lens for about 45 seconds using small circular motions.

    • 3

Use a clean microfiber towel to wipe off the headlight lens cleaner. Wipe off the cleaner using quick wiping motions, the same way you would wipe off wax on car paint. Your lenses should be clear and restored. If you see any scratches on the lens, repeat the process in the specific area.
