      Disconnect power to the pool pump by unplugging the electrical cord or turning the circuit breaker off.

      Place the pool filter between the pool pump and the pool return valve. The pool's return valve is located on the sidewall of the pool. Be sure the pool filter is on level ground, and use a leveling tool and cylinder blocks to achieve a level spot.

      Connect the pool filter to the pool pump by connecting a pool hose from the pool pump outlet valve to the pool filter inlet valve. The valves are labeled, and if you are unsure, consult your owner's manual. Newer pump models have a connector that screws onto the pool pumps inlet valve. If your equipment has a connector, use a large wrench to tighten the pump to the filter.

      Connect the pool filter to the pool by using a piece of pool hose. Attach the pool hose to the outlet valve on the pool filter to the pool return valve on the side of the pool. Use a hose clamp on each end to secure the hose. Use a flathead screwdriver to tighten the hose clamps.

      Fill the pool with water, and prime the pool system per the owner's manual. Add the necessary chemicals, plug the pool pump back in and turn the system on.
