How to Dispose of Bowling Balls

Many believe that bowling was invented by the ancient Egyptians around 3200 B.C. A set of what seems to be a bowling ball and pins were found in a child's tomb in Egypt. Others believe it was invented in Germany around 250 B.C. Bowling balls were originally carved from stone. In the United States they were first carved from oak. Hard rubber balls then took the place of oak balls in the early 1990's. Once you've had enough of your bowling ball and are ready for an upgrade, convert it into a lawn sphere following these simple steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Sand the entire surface of the bowling ball.

    • 2

Pour rubbing alcohol onto your rag and wipe the ball clean.

    • 3

Crumple up your aluminum foil to fill all three holes in the bowling ball. Fill in the top of each of the holes with wood putty using your putty knife. Set on empty coffee can until hardened.

    • 4

Spray the bowling ball with your choice of spray paint while the ball is still sitting on the coffee can. Let stand until dry. Once dry rotate the ball and spray the areas which have not yet been painted. Let stand until dry.

    • 5

Spray on two or three coats of outdoor polyurethane. Rotate the ball on the coffee can as you did when painting to make sure all surfaces of the ball have been covered. Let stand until dry.
