Instructions

Purchase round cake boards from your local craft store. .

    • 2

Obtain plastic piping from your local hardware store. There are pre-cut joint pieces, called coupling. You will need eight pieces total, one that is nine inches wide, three that are six inches, one that is four inches, and two that are two inches.

    • 3

Choose a fabric or wrapping paper that will match your theme. Line the cake boards with the chosen covering. Use craft glue to attach it. You will only need to cover the tops and bottoms of the boards.

    • 4

Choose a ribbon that is the right width for the edge of your boards and matches your color choice in coverings. Affix the ribbon to the unfinished edges of the cake board using a hot glue gun.

    • 5

Paint the outside of the plastic coupling using a spray paint that matches your previous color choices. If you prefer, you can use acrylic paints and make a design instead of one color. You won't be able to see the designs at first, but as guests take cupcakes it will be seen. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly before assembling the cupcake stand.

    • 6

Place the largest plastic coupling on the table your cupcakes will be served on. Place the largest cake board on top of it. Make sure the cake board is centered to avoid it tipping once the cupcakes are added.

    • 7

Place a six inch plastic coupling in the center of the cake board. Add the cupcakes onto the 16 inch cake board. Place them so that they are close together, but are not quite touching, you want there to be room for your guests to remove them from the stand.

    • 8

Place the next largest cake board on the center of the plastic coupling. On top of the coupling, center the first of the 12 inch cake round. Add cupcakes as you did the lower layer.

    • 9

Continue to build your cupcake stand in this manner. Each piece you add should be the largest remaining, until you have completed the stand. You should have approximately 100 cupcakes left after the stand is completed. These should be placed under the 16 inch board and around the table. Be careful when you place cupcakes under the 16 inch board so that you do not mess up the icing on them.

Tips & Warnings

  • It is very important to make sure the plastic coupling and the cake boards are all centered, otherwise when people take cupcakes off of the boards, they could topple over
