Wicker baskets add a rustic design to any wall, and you can mount one with a few simple items. Use the wicker baskets to store books and toys, creating a focal point in the space. Place the baskets side by side for a horizontal style shelving unit or down the wall for a vertical unit. Use sturdy L-brackets to support he weight of the basket. L-brackets are also very flexible, and you can space them as wide as the basket you plan to use. Place baskets in any room for extra storage and when mounting the baskets on the wall, space below is freed up for you to use.
Things You'll Need
- Carpenter's level
- Stud finder
- 16-inch L brackets
- Electric drill
- Wicker baskets
Mark the spot on the wall where the wicker basket will hang. Use a carpenter's level to ensure the marked areas are level. Locate a stud behind the wall for added support and stability using a stud finder.
Use two 16-inch L brackets to hold up the wicker baskets. Place the bracket on the wall so the base of the "L" is sitting flush against the wall. Insert the screws into the pre-drilled holes on the L-bracket and on the market spots. With an electric drill, drill the screws into the wall.
Studs require more muscle with the drill, so don't be afraid to drill the screws firmly into the wall. Place the baskets on top of the L-bracket. For heavy items, refer to the maximum weight capacity of the bracket.
To prevent the basket from tipping over, attach a thin strip of adhesive to the back of the bottom and top of the wicker basket. Press the basket against the wall to ensure the strip adheres to the wall.
Test out to make sure the baskets are secure on the wall by adding two to three light objects. Once you know they are secure, begin filling the baskets with essential items.
Tips & Warnings
- Line the wicker basket with cloth to prevent scracthing the inside of hte baskets. Alternatively, you can purchase baskets which come lined.
- Wear protective goggles when using an electric drill to prevent injury.
