How to Install Wood Flooring or a Wood Floor

You want a new beautiful wood floor but cant quite afford it. Install it your self. Be careful with power tools and air tools. Does this Spark an idea?

      Put down resin paper lapping two inches on each row. Staple this down with a hammer stapler. Snap a line down the longest part of room making sure it is square and even with walls. Cut a groove in the side opposite of the tongue side of first row. Nail the row down along your snapped line. now you are ready for additional rows. Put a tongue in your groove you cut.

      Put rows in nailoing with floor nailer every eight to twelve inches or as recommended by flooring manufacture. Make sure row stays on snapped line. After you hae 5 rows on opposite the snapped line you can work on both sides. Splice joints at least two inches from previous joint. When coming to wall or transission point cut piece to fit leaving room for expansion. Generally about one half inch. Start next row with other end of cut piece.

      When you get to close for nailer when coming to a wall you must use a finish gun or hand nail remaining rows. Still install same way and cut ender and start with other side. Installing last piece by wall rip so you leave one half inch for expansion. Face nail last row. Install baseboard and base shoe.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you leave room for expansion so your floor can move without buckleing.

  • Always wear safety goggles when sawing and using nail guns.
