      Pick up newspapers and flyers that may gather in your driveway. Leaving these may make it look like you are not home.

      Do not allow yard workers, strangers, or contractors to enter your home. Even if they need to use the restroom, they could be scouting your home out for valuables for themselves or someone else.

      Safe

      Remove valuable property from your home. Even if you have a safe, it can be taken. They may not have the combination, but they could take the entire safe with them.

      Have your family for friends come to your house in the winter if you are not going to be home. A fresh set of tire tracks and footprints could help deter a burglar.

      Keep the TV or radio on while you are away. Sometimes this works as well as an alarm at deterring a burglar.

      Do not have your alarm control pad within view from the outside of the door. This is a sure give away to whether you remembered to set the alarm or not.
