Check your smoke detector to ensure it is working. Change the batteries in your smoke detector if it has been more than six months since they have been changed.

Read the instructions that came with your space heater.

Set up your space heater at least three feet from bedding, clothing, curtains and other items that are combustible. Do not set up the space heater in bathrooms, basements or other areas where it might come in contact with water.
