How to Make a Homemade Cricket Trap

Crickets have many uses, ranging from food for a pet reptile to using them as fishing bait. Some bait shops may even buy crickets, so you could sell them and earn a little extra money. Crickets are primarily active at night and tend to shy away from people, so catching them is most efficient when done with a trap. Cricket traps require minimal materials and can be put together in a matter of minutes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Dig a hole in the ground at least a foot deep. The sides of the hole must be straight up and down, otherwise the trap may not work. The hole must be wide enough for your entire arm to fit in.

    • 2

Lay a towel on top of the hole. The crickets will see the towel as an easy hiding spot and crawl underneath it.

    • 3

Put a piece of lettuce underneath the towel so half of the lettuce sticks out. This will lure the crickets to the trap.

    • 4

Check the hole each morning. There should be a pile of trapped crickets sitting at the bottom. Remove the crickets with your hands and put them in a ventilated container.

    • 5

Repeat the steps daily until you are pleased with the number of crickets you have.
