How to Make Valentine Baskets Out of Paper Plates
Valentine's Day is a fun and memorable day for children and adults alike. To help children prepare for the holiday, consider having them create a heart-shaped paper-plate basket to hold the cards their classmates distribute.
Things You'll Need
- Two paper plates
- Stapler
- Staples
- Scissors
- Red ribbon
- Crayons, markers or poster paints

Place the paper plates so that the edges are together with opposite sides facing out.

Staple the left and right top edges of the plates.

Cut a "v" shape with rounded edges out of the top center of the plates. Create another "v" shape at the bottom of the plates, keeping the center left and right portions uncut.

Staple the left and right edges down to the very bottom of the heart basket.

Staple the ribbon to the top left and right sides of the heart to form a handle.

Decorate the basket with the crayons, markers or poster paints.

Tips & Warnings
It may be easier to have the kids color the plates before stapling them together.
Creating a template for your heart shape and tracing it onto one of the plates to be cut---or passing it around to trace before cutting---can cut down on wasted paper plates if you're working with younger children or large groups.
Monitor younger children when working with staplers and scissors.
