How to Measure a Catchers Mitt
Most baseball gloves are measured from the highest point of the glove (the point of the index finger, usually) down to the heel of the glove. Technically, a catcher's mitt has no separate fingers--that is what differentiates a mitt from a glove. The first baseman also plays with a mitt, but his mitt is measured in essentially the same way a glove is measured. The catcher's mitt, on the other hand, is measured by its circumference or the distance around the outside edge.

-
4
Note the measurement on the tape--this is the circumference of the catcher's mitt.
