How to Tile a Background
A tiled background is one that repeats horizontally and/or vertically . You can use any image of your choice to create the tile effect, whether it's one you created from scratch or an existing image. The image may be downloaded from the internet, scanned into your computer (from a digital camera) or saved from an email. You may use Microsoft Paint for Windows or your favorite image editor to create the tiled background you want.

Using Paint to Create a Tiled Background

Open Paint by selecting "Start > All Programs > Accessories > Paint."

Open the existing the image you want to tile by selecting "File > Open" or create your own image in Paint.

Change the image size (optional) by selecting "Image > Stretch and Skew" and typing the percentage you want in the "Horizontal" and "Vertical" fields. Click "OK" to accept the changes.

Modify the color of the image (optional) by selecting "Image > Attributes." Select "Black and white" or "Colors" from the "Colors" option and click "OK."

Save the image you've updated by selecting "File > Save As." Rename your file and click "Save."

Select "File > Set As Background (Tiled)" to turn the image to a tiled background. The image will be automatically placed on your computer desktop as the new background.
Using Windows Desktop to Tile a Background

Go to your Windows desktop and right-click on the desktop. Select "Properties" and click on the "Desktop" tab.

Scroll through the list of image names under "Background" and find the background you want to tile. You may also select "Browse" and find an image you downloaded, scanned or saved from your email.

Click on the down arrow under "Position." It will include "Center," "Tile" and "Stretch." Select "Tile" to tile the image on your desktop.

Preview the background tile and click on "OK" to accept the changes.

Tips & Warnings
Similar image editing programs also allow you to tile an image. The process is relatively simple. You can search the program's Help option to learn how to tile in that program.
