The 14th Dalai Lama is a Tibetan cultural and Buddhist icon. His wisdom is sought after with great fervor. Despite his busy schedule and abiding commitment to help all beings attain enlightenment, it is still possible to meet the Dalai Lama by private audience, media interviews and invitation. On the advice of his doctors, the Dalai Lama no longer holds public audiences. His support team is trying to cut back on all of his activities.

Contact the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama (OHHDL) in McLeod Ganj Dharamsala, India. OHHDL is responsible for all of the Dalai Lama's affairs. Contact OHHDL by email, phone or postal mail.

Provide OHHDL with specific information about yourself and your reasons for wanting to meet in private audience with the Dalai Lama. OHHDL carefully screens applicants for private audiences. According to OHHDL on the Dalai Lama's official website, private audiences are held three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Submit requests far in advance. Prepare your trip to Dharamsala accordingly.

Use your role as a member of the media to request an interview. OHHDL schedules interviews only on audience days. The Dalai Lama grants only one interview on an audience day. OHHDL recommends that members of the media begin their request for interviews well in advance. A special review committee needs time to review your request and to schedule, if approved.

Invite the Dalai Lama to an event. He is sought after around the world so you will be in competition with notable persons and organizations. OHHDL accepts invitations from individuals and from groups around the world. OHHDL encourages you to send your invitation, far in advance of your event, to the office of the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama (also known as the Office of Tibet) in your country. This office has information about the Dalai Lama's plans and the possibilities for your success. The regional office sends your invitation to the OHHDL. Once an invitation is accepted, OHHDL coordinates the Dalai Lama's schedule with the regional office.
