How to Use Eyelet Pliers
If you enjoy creating your own clothing or tailoring your own shoes, you may be familiar with eyelet pliers. Eyelet pliers are designed to insert the metal ring you see on shoes that allow a shoelace to pass through. Eyelet pliers work similar to a paper hole puncher, except instead of remove an object they install a product to help increase the function of the clothing. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Cut a hole in the shoe or fabric for where you want to install an eyelet. You can use a variety of different items to create the hole. The eyelet pliers may have a hole punch on the tool, or you can use scissors or a utility knife.
-
2
Place the eyelet (also known as a grommet) piece inside of the hole. These can typically be purchased in bags at arts and craft stores.

-
3
Open up the eyelet pliers completely and place them over the actual eyelet piece. The top of the pliers should align with the eyelet or grommet.
-
4
To attach an eyelet, squeeze down on the pliers, and compress the eyelet around the hole. This action clamps down on the fabric around it, making the grommet permanent.
-
5
Open the eyelet pliers up without pulling back. If you do, you can actually tear the fabric around the pliers. After the pliers are open, remove them from around the eyelet and repeat the process if necessary.
