How to Get Rid of Scalp Warts

Warts are a result of the human papillomavirus, commonly referred to as HPV. HPV can be contracted from close contact with the skin and can live on the surface of the skin while presenting little or no symptoms. When immunity is low, the infection can seep through cracks of the skin and affect the skin area and present warts. Digitate warts are horny and finger-like in appearance and develop on the scalp near the hairline. Several treatments are available for wart removal, such as laser surgery, topical ointments and prescription drugs. These treatments can be expensive and may require several treatments before results begin to show. Home remedies have proven successful in the removal of scalp warts.

Things You'll Need

  • Knife
  • Potato
  • Plastic baggies
  • Bandages
  • Onion
  • Teaspoon
  • Table salt
  • Measuring cup
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Cotton balls

Not Your Typical Baked Potato

  • Peel one whole potato and slice into eight sectional pieces. Place seven sections of potato into a plastic baggie and store in refrigerator to keep fresh. Be sure to remove the potato skin entirely; bacteria can be present on the skin of potato and can seep into the skin, creating infection.

  • Rub the wart with one potato section in a circular motion. Raw potatoes have high volumes of potassium, phosphorus and sulfur that cleanse the skin and remove impurities.

  • Discard potato after entire infected area has been rubbed. Repeat this treatment two times daily for best results.

Onion Wart Removal

  • Slice one whole onion into two halves. Place the remaining onion half in a plastic baggie, store in the refrigerator to keep fresh.

  • Measure 1/2 tsp. table salt, pouring salt onto the onion half. Allow the onion half to sit for a minimum of two hours. The table salt enables the onion's juice to rise to the surface of the onion.

  • Rub the wart infected area with the onion for approximately three minutes in a circular motion. Repeat this treatment two times daily for best results.

Apple Cider Wart Be Gone

  • Measure one-third cup apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar contains high levels of acidity that cause the wart to shrink and eventually fall off or disappear.

  • Dip two to four cotton balls in apple cider vinegar, apply to warts. Discard after applying to warts. Rub the warts with apple cider vinegar in a circular motion for two to three minutes.

  • Place two to three more cotton balls in apple cider vinegar and apply to warts. Secure the cotton balls in place with a bandage and leave on for three to four hours. Repeat this remedy two times daily.

Tips & Warnings

  • Change the bandages frequently to avoid bacterial infection.
  • All ingredients can be purchased at your local supermarket.
  • Always consult a dermatologist regarding any skin growths such as warts. Wart are generally harmless; however, some types of warts can be cancerous and cause serious medical problems.
  • Keep sharp objects such as knives away from children. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or death. Keep plastic baggies away from children. Failure to do so may result in suffocation or serious respiratory problems.
