How to Create Picture Invitations
Before buying invitations from a supplier, consider creating picture invitations with photo editing software. Picture invitations are a creative way to invite your guests. Pictures add color and interest to your invite, and they make great keepsake gifts for your guests. Creating your own picture invitations is inexpensive, but it can become time consuming if you do not have much experience with editing software. Plan the wording and sketch designs of your picture invitations before you elect to create them on editing software to save you time and frustration.
Instructions

1
Create a new document in your photo editing software. You can also use desktop publishing software on your computer, as long as it allows you to add photos and text.
-
2
Set the dimensions of your picture invitation to 4 by 6 inches. This is the standard size for most invitations, however, you can adjust the size to your personal preference.
-
-
3
Use the "Paint Bucket" or "Paint Fill" tool to fill the background with a solid color. Use a color that matches the theme of your party. You may also choose to leave the background white, in which case you will not need to fill the background with a color.
-
4
Place the photo onto the invitation. Photo editing software usually contains options such as "Place," "Insert" or "Add" when importing electronic media into the software. If you are not sure how to add a picture to your invitation, consult the "Help" option located on the status bar of the editing software.
-
5
Re-size the photo on your invitation. Once you place the photo onto the picture invitation, you can re-size the picture to fit on the invitation. A general design rule is to make the photo 1/3 of the invitation size.
-
6
Add the text to your picture invitation. It is important to know what you want the invitation to say before you add the text. A typical invitation includes an opening line such as "You're invited" or "Come Join Us." Once you add the opening line, add the location, date, time and important party details to your invite.
-
7
Experiment with the font color, size and style. Photo editing software comes with a variety of fonts. Choose a font that is easy for your guests to read. Make sure that the size, style and color of the font does not distract the guest. You do not want your guests to have a negative feeling toward the party because it is impossible to read.
-
8
Place the final additions on your picture invitation. Add borders, clip art or shapes to add interest to your picture invitation.
-
9
Save the document to your computer. Periodically save your document to avoid losing any changes to your invitation.
-
10
Print a test copy of your invitation on scrap paper. Once the invitation meets your approval, you can load your printer with glossy photo paper.
-
11
Select the appropriate printer options for your invitation. Photo paper often comes with specific instructions for your printer to ensure that you get a quality print.
