How to Format Text on a Web Page

You can use headings, change the font color or size and use other formatting options in your web page.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Text-editing program
  1. Step 1

    Open the web page in a text editing program, such as Notepad or EditPad. Place the cursor in front of the text to be formatted.

  2. Step 2

    Choose the formatting option: Italicize , Bold , Headings

    through
    , Font Size through , or Font Color (type name of color or hex value).

  3. Step 3

    Type the opening tag (such as ), in front of the text to be formatted.

  4. Step 4

    Type the closing tag, such as , at the end of the text to be formatted. Save the file.

  5. Step 5

    Open your web browser. Select Open from the File menu.

  6. Step 6

    Locate the page and double-click on it to review the changes.

Tips & Warnings
  • All formatting options begin with an open tag and a closing tag.
  • If the formatting continues past the portion to be formatted, make sure you put in a closing tag after the text.
