Purchase two 2-by-2 pieces of wood the length of your trellis to attach to your house or wood fence. Find the studs underneath the siding of the house. Look for the nails holding up the siding. For fences, you can attach the two 2-by-2s directly to the fence.

Screw in your four lag screws so that they penetrate both 2-by-2 pieces of wood. Make sure that your lag screws are large enough to deeply screw into the siding and wood.
