How To Enable Flash Drive Ports

Windows XP has built-in support for flash drives, so you do not need to install any drivers to use flash drives on a Windows XP-based computer. When you plug in your flash drive, Windows XP automatically detects it and opens the flash drive folder for you to access the files stored on it.

Instructions

  1. Enable Flash Drive Ports on Windows XP

    • 1

Log in as administrator on the computer.

    • 2

Go to "Start" and then click on "Control Panel."

    • 3

In the "Control Panel" window that opens, double-click on the "System" icon.

    • 4

In the "System Properties" dialog box that opens, click on the "Hardware" tab and then click on "Device Manager."

    • 5

In the "Device Manager" window, click on the plus sign next to "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" to expand it.

    • 6

On the options shown below "Universal Serial Bus Controllers," one-by-one right-click and then click "Enable." Flash drive ports are now enabled.
