How to Convert a TXT File to TPL

TPL files are PHP template code files. Template code files, as with other PHP code files, are simply text files with PHP file extensions. The unique file extensions designate the files as PHP code files when interpreted by PHP. Converting a TXT file to a TPL (or other PHP code) file is as simple as renaming the file's extension to a PHP-friendly name.

Things You'll Need

• Computer with access to a PHP installation
• TXT file to convert

1. Right-click the Windows "Start" button and select the "Explore" option to open Windows Explorer.

2. Navigate to the TXT file to convert.

3. Double-click on the TXT file to open the file in Notepad or another simple text application.

4. Click the "File" option from the top drop-down menu.

5. Click the "Save As" option from the context menu.

6. Using double quotes around the new file name, rename the file with the TPL file extension in the Save As input box. For example, if the original TXT file is named text.txt, rename the file to "text.tpl" -- with the quotation marks.

7. Click the "Save" button to save the file with the new name, including the TPL file extension.

8. Upload the TPL file onto the PHP server and invoke the file to test.
