How to Get Rid of Specs in Black Paint on a Car
Black cars hide dirt well, but eventually they will lose their new car look. You may notice a build-up of specs on your car. While dirt and debris on the outside can be washed off, if it has made its way into the paint of your car, it needs a special cleaning job to remove it. Removing these specs is crucial to prevent scratches and rust from building up.

1
Wash the car thoroughly first using a soft-bristle scrubbing brush. Allow the car to dry in a sheltered area where it won't get dirty. Afterward, check the car in a well-lit area to make sure the specs are still there and weren't simply washed away with a normal wash.

2
Open a new clay bar when you are ready to remove specs from the paint of the car. Make sure the clay bar is clean or else it can leave scratches in the paint. If there are relatively few specs, you may choose to leave the car alone. Since it is black, the specs will blend in much better than on lighter-color cars. More than a few specs, however, need attention to prevent further damage.

3
Fill a bucket with hot water, though not too hot since you'll be sticking your bare hand into it, and allow the clay bar to soak for one to two minutes. Keep the bucket in a place where dust and dirt won't fall into it while you're cleaning.
-
4
Remove the clay bar from the water and knead it into a ball in your hand. Press it flat. It should fit comfortably into your hand, so you can wash your car with it.
-
5
Spray the lubricant that came with the clay bar onto the bar itself and onto the area you're cleaning. Rub the clay bar up and down over the area. You'll want to apply pressure but not too much. It's better to go lightly and come back later. You will have a harder time telling when the paint is clean because of the black paint. According to Car Care Advice, after some practice you will be able to feel the difference between rough, dirty areas and smooth, clean areas.

6
Clean a couple square feet of your car and knead the clay bar into a ball again before pressing it flat. This keeps too much dirt from building up and making the clay bar useless. Constantly check your progress by looking for scratches on the car, or large particles on the clay bar that need to be pulled off to prevent them from damaging the paint.
-
7
Finish using the clay bar and rinse your car off thoroughly. If you want, you can polish and wax the car.
