How to Remove Cat Urine From a Rug

Unlike many other household pets, cats are typically very clean animals and restrict their urination to outside or in a litter box. If you have a kitten who doesn't know how to use a litter box yet, or a cat that has happened to have an accident outside its box, you may end up with cat urine on your carpets. You can clean up cat urine with a couple of tools and a little labor. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Use a dry absorbent cloth to soak up the urine off of your carpet while it is still wet. If the urine has already dried, wet the cloth with warm water, and attempt to moisten the urine and blot up the stain.

    • 2

Use a store-bought pet carpet cleaner to thoroughly spray the area. If you do not want to purchase a carpet cleaner, you can also use clothing detergent; however, the pet carpet cleaner will also help repel your cat from urinating in the same place again.

    • 3

Blot up the cleaner off your carpet using another clean cloth. Use force to make sure you remove all the liquid from the carpet.

    • 4

Spray the area with a mixture of 50 percent apple cider vinegar and 50 percent water to keep your cat from urinating in the same area again.
