How to Force Crocus Flower Bulbs for Inside Use
Crocus flowers are grown from bulbs rather than seeds. However, gardeners don't have to wait until spring to enjoy their beautiful blooms because crocus flower bulbs can easily be forced to bloom inside as well. Forcing a bulb to bloom involves creating the proper climate conditions to trick the bulb into thinking that it is time to bloom. Using this method, it is possible to enjoy crocus flowers the entire year. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Fill the bowl with gravel until it is approximately three quarters full.
-
2
Place the crocus bulb into the center of the bowl and press it down firmly into the gravel until it is approximately 1/4 inch deep. The bulb should stand up on its own without falling over.
-
-
3
Carefully fill the bowl with water until it just reaches the top of the gravel but only just skims the bottom of the crocus bulb.
-
4
Place the pot in a cool, dark location for four to six weeks to allow the roots to form. At the end of six weeks check the bulb for roots. If the roots are less than 2 inches long, place the bowl back into the dark location for another two weeks.
-
5
Gently remove the bulb from the gravel and transplant it to a pot containing potting soil. Completely cover the bulb with soil, but allow any green shoots on top of the bulb to remain uncovered near the top of the pot.
-
6
Place the newly potted bulb into a warm sunny location and watch for flowers to bloom in approximately four to six weeks.
