How to Use a Veritas Sharpening Tool

Woodworkers rejoice! The Veritas sharpening system is the perfect tool for sharpening chisels quickly and easily but more importantly, at the correct angle for maximum sharpness and usability. The Veritas sharpening tool comes complete with a chisel holder and angle setting jig that allows you to sharpen your chisels at angles from 15 degrees to 35 degrees, and most any angle in between. Instructions

    • 1

      Place your chisel into the honing guide and tighten the set screw slightly, just enough to hold it in place.

      Place the tip of your chisel inside of the angle gauge, bevel down, and select the appropriate angle.

      Slide your chisel with attached angle gauge underneath the angle setting jig, which is a small hexagonal disc. This action will set the angle of your chisel.

      The roller feet beneath the angle gauge will conform to the angle on the jig. Tighten down the set screw which will positively lock the angle in place.

      Your chisel is now ready to be sharpened. Place it on your choice of sharpening stone, hold it firmly, then roll it back and forth until you have a very sharp edge.

Tips & Warnings

  • Lubricate your sharpening stone with light oil for best sharpening results.

  • Use caution when sharpening your chisel. It will come out near razor sharp, so wear gloves when using the Veritas sharpening system.
