How to Resurface a Tennis Court

The longer you wait to resurface your tennis court, the worse the potential damage. Normally, you will need to resurface your court once it starts fading, and certainly when it starts cracking, peeling or getting dents where puddles develop. If you wait until your court starts peeling, you are allowing dirt and debris to penetrate the surface, and this will be harder to fix. Three people can finish a resurfacing job in one to three days, weather permitting, according to TennisCourtRepairs.com. Whether you intend to resurface a court yourself or hire someone to do it, you should know the procedure. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the courts. Use a power washer. Depending on where your courts are located, they could have mold or tree sap on them.

    • 2

Fill the cracks. Concrete or acrylic will do the job. If the cracks are so bad they have grass growing from them, clean that out first using a screwdriver or putty knife. Pour in your filler and smooth it out.

    • 3

Fill in the indented areas. If the area is deep, you can first use some pea gravel. Then fill with acrylic or cement. Let dry.

    • 4

Apply a resurfacer. After you have filled cracks and low spots and have waited for them to dry, put on an acrylic resurfacer. You apply resurfacer with a squeegee. It is better to have two people squeegeeing and two people mixing the resurfacer. Otherwise, the resurfacer could dry out before you can evenly spread it on.

    • 5

Put on two coats of acrylic color. This procedure is the same as for the resurfacer.

    • 6

Paint on the lines. One technique is to use masking tape to mark where the lines will go. Once you measure, put the tape on either side of where the line will go and paint in between.

Tips & Warnings

  • There are many color combinations to choose from besides the standard green court with red surrounding. Many people are choosing blue courts with green surrounding, and tournament purple is now popular because it is easier to see the ball against the purple.
