How to Sanitize a Steam Room
When a person sits down in a steam room, he or she sweats. The toxins are drawn out of the skin through the sweat and they drip on the floor and seats, or they enter the air. This creates a dirty, germ-filled environment that should be cleaned and disinfected often. You can sanitize a steam room using a few simple household items. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need

1
Open the window or door to start ventilating the steam room. Chances are that the air is still thick with sweat, odor and germs. Wear a face mask to protect yourself while cleaning up.
-
2
Start by mopping up the floor thoroughly with a cleaning solution that contains a disinfectant. For example, Clorox Clean-Up is an ideal choice since the bleach in it kills bacteria. Add a cup of the cleaner to a five gallon pail of steaming hot water for use on the floor.

3
Use an alcohol- or bleach-based sanitizing spray on the sitting areas, door handles, door frames, and walls of the room. Wipe them down thoroughly with paper towels. Don't forget to spray any drains in the steam room with your sanitizing spray as well---drains are a hot spot for bacteria.
-
4
Take any mats in the room outside to be sanitized. Soak the mat with your sanitizing spray, let it sit for a half hour, and then rinse it off with your hose. Allow the mats to air dry outside before putting them back into the room.
-
5
Spray the room with a disinfectant spray that kills bacteria and odor in the air and on surfaces, such as Lysol. Spray the area directly outside the steam room door as well.
-
6
Leave the door or window open for at least six hours to allow the room to dry and aerate completely.

Tips & Warnings
Keep a bottle of hand sanitizer and a fresh supply of clean towels inside or directly outside of the steam room so that people can get the sweat and bacteria off of their hands and body as soon as possible
You can also use white distilled vinegar in your mop solution. Vinegar is an effective natural disinfecting agent.
