How to Make a Kid's Tissue Paper Lei
Making a tissue-paper lei is an inexpensive craft project that can be done in less than an hour. You can teach your children about the Hawaiian culture and allow them to display what they learned through a simple craft project. This particular project will create a Hawaiian lei that your child can wear as a headband.
Things You'll Need
- 15 to 20 3-by-3-inch tissue-paper squares
- Poster board
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue
- Masking tape
Instructions

1
Measure the child's head. The lei will need to fit comfortably, but you do not want it to be loose and fall in his eyes. Add a couple of inches to the measurement.
-
2
Draw a rectangle that's as long as your measurement and 2 inches wide on a piece of poster board. Cut out the rectangle.
-
-
3
Apply glue to a small section of the strip.
-
4
Stand a pencil, on its eraser, in the middle of a piece of tissue paper.
-
5
Twist the pencil gently on the tissue paper. The tissue paper will twist around the pencil.
-
6
Stick the piece of tissue paper onto the glue you applied to the poster board.
-
7
Continue to apply glue to small sections and twist pieces of tissue paper with a pencil and apply them to the poster board until you have the desired effect.
-
8
Wrap the lei around the child's head and use a piece of masking tape to connect the lei securely around the child's head.
