How to Choose An Air Soft Gun
Airsoft guns are replica weaponry that fire plastic pellets at high speeds toward targets or opponents on an Airsoft field. These guns are used in simulated combat situations known as Airsoft "battles," or extended campaigns, called "wars." Unlike in similar games such as paintball and woodsball, the use of high-speed pellets allows for a more realistic battlefield, thanks to the addition of weapons with greatly enhanced accuracy and rate of fire. Choosing the right Airsoft gun can mean the difference between quick elimination and victory on the Airsoft battlefield.

1
Know your role in the battle. Assault troops will require rapid-firing, close combat weapons. Snipers can use quiet, spring-loaded shots with excellent accuracy to the best effect, while machine gunners need to be able to lay down a field of fire that impedes enemy advancement.
-
2
Determine the ideal firing mechanism. Electronic firing modules rarely have noticeable recoil and are better for assault weapons. Gas-powered guns are cheaper but have far more recoil. Spring-loaded weapons must typically be loaded after every shot, and are almost silent on the field.

3
Ask your dealer for the rate of fire information. The rate of fire is the amount of pellets the gun can fire in a short amount of time. Rounds per second or rounds per minute are typically used to calculate this statistic. Higher rates of fire mean more enemy hits in a shorter period of time, but also greatly increase the noise of the weapon.
-
4
Check the weight and bulk of the guns. Large, bulky weapons are fine for assault troops, as they will always be in your hand and ready to fire. Sniper rifles should be easily lifted with one hand from the prone position.
-
5
Choose the correct color of weapon for your most common field of play. Repainting guns can be tedious and difficult if the gun is a complex replica model. Use a neutral color such as black or green camouflage, unless you know the field is an urban or other landscape. Avoid flashy colors such as hunter's orange or fire red.
-
6
Factor in the cost of maintenance and recharge to the purchase price of the gun. All guns will need regular oil and cleaning. Electronic firing modules rarely need maintenance beyond this, but spring-loaded weapons must have their firing mechanism taken apart and cleaned. Gas-powered guns will require regular recharging at Airsoft stations.

Tips & Warnings
It's unwise to have too many players carrying armament for the same role on the field. Consider picking up a second weapon for an additional role if you play outside of a regular team.
Don't forget safety gear. Coordinate your guns and gear to maximize your capabilities on the field.
