How to Deal With Brain Fog

Everyone has to deal with brain fog from time to time, and has experienced moments when they can't remember names or find their keys, even though they just had them. Brain fog can be caused by daily stress and fatigue, improper nutrition, depression, over-consumption of alcohol or can even be an indicator of a more serious illness. If you improve your overall health, your mind and body can get back on track.

      Exercise. Sometimes even doing something as simple as taking a thirty-minute walk outdoors will do wonders to improve your blood circulation and help clear your mind. The added benefit of getting outdoor exercise is that you can soak in melatonin from the sun, which will help clear your mind.

      Reassess your diet. There are a number of foods that slow down your body and your mind, like refined sugars, excessive caffeine and MSG, for example. You want to make sure that you incorporate enough protein, complex carbohydrates, leafy green vegetables and healthy saturated fats like those found in extra virgin olive oil.

      Supplement your dietary needs with a daily multivitamin. In the face of a busy lifestyle, we often don't find enough time to eat properly. A good multivitamin will help supply your body with some of the nutrients and vitamins it may not get from your regular diet.

      Get enough sleep. Make sure to set a regular bedtime each night that allows you to get between seven and eight hours of sleep each night. Setting a regular sleep regimen will help you get your body and mind on track.

      Meditate for at least 10 to 15 minutes every day. Meditation allows you time to set your frazzled mind on the back burner, clearing out stress and tension so you can think more clearly.

      Visit your doctor to have a physical. Digestive problems, depression, allergies and chronic infections can often contribute to brain fog. Narrowing down these types of problems and treating them on your own can be difficult. You may also want to talk to your doctor about any medications you are currently taking that may be causing brain fog.

      Avoid over indulging in alcohol. Excessive drinking can lead to withdrawal symptoms such as brain fog, even if the binging only occurs on rare occasions.

      Keep your mind sharp by practicing a variety of tasks that stimulate brain activity. Crossword and mathematical puzzles, trivia and avid reading are just a couple of tasks that can keep your mind active.
