How to Remove Popsicle Stains From a Carpet

Save

If you've got young children in your home who love having a Popsicle for a summertime treat, chances are good that you've suffered a spill or stain from these treats. Luckily treating these stains on your carpet is not too labor intensive, and you won't have to cringe anymore when your little ones reach for a frozen treat. By using some common household materials, you can get rid of that popsicle stain for good.

Things You'll Need

  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Water
  • Spray bottle
  • Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water. Shake well. The mixture may fizz a little, so make sure not to fill it all the way.

  • Spray the stain with the mixture. Just a few spritzes should suffice as the mixture is particularly potent. The goal is to make the surface of the carpet damp but not wet.

  • Let the mixture sit for several minutes. If the stain is small, 10 to 15 minutes should suffice, but if the Popsicle stain is large, wait no longer than 30 minutes.

  • Spray the stain with some water, and use a carpet brush to massage the fibers. At this point the stain should be lightening.

  • Use a damp sponge to scrub the remaining stain out of the carpet. If the stain is large, make sure to rinse it a few times to get the stain out.

Tips & Warnings

  • The faster you can get to the stain, the more effective this cleaning method is. If the Popsicle stain has had time to dry, you may need to repeat this process a few times to completely eliminate the stain.
  • This method is best used on berber and plush carpets. Shag or other long-strand carpet types are more difficult to clean and may require professional attention.
