1
Measure your bathroom accurately and draw it to scale on a sheet of graph paper in pencil. Draw all of the fixtures (bathtub, sink, toilet, counters) onto the graph paper. Be sure to place them exactly where they are in the bathroom.

2
Determine what is taking up the most room in your bathroom. Is your sink large and bulky? Consider a corner sink with a cabinet underneath and a medicine cabinet at the top. This will free up space and add more storage space, which is important in cramped bathrooms. Is your bathtub too big for the small space? Consider adding a stand-up shower with sliding doors. They take up less space.

Purchase a new toilet. Some toilets sit farther away from the wall and take up more space than necessary. Go to your local hardware shop and examine different toilets. Choose a smaller toilet that sits close to the wall in order to conserve space. Take note of how far away the wall is to the toilet drain on the original toilet to make sure you're choosing the right one. It is possible to get the wrong toilet. Not all toilets will fit.

4
Take out a wall and replace it with a large, high-up window. This will allow natural light into the bathroom, making it appear larger and more comfortable.

5
Remove any hutches or free-standing shelves from the bathroom. These items take up a lot of space. Instead, add shelves to the wall or move items from the bathroom into a nearby linen closet. Remove any clutter from the bathroom (think health and beauty products, brushes, accessories) to make the space appear bigger.
