In addition, if you want to paint the garage floor, you'll need to seal it first. Concrete sealers are readily available and easy to work with. Instructions

  1. How to Seal a Garage

    • 1

Purchase professional-grade concrete cleaner and a concrete waterproofing sealer. Popular brands include Quikrete, Rustoleum and Thompson's. These items are available at any local hardware store or online.

    • 2

Clean your garage floor. With a hose and stiff bristle broom, scrub the floor with cleaner. If there are grease and oil stains, use a degreaser such as Thompson's WaterSeal Concrete Care Cleaner & Degreaser, closely following all of the manufacturer's instructions. Let the cleaner soak in for a half an hour, then repeat as needed for deep and dark stains.

    • 3

Pour your sealer into in a large paint tray. Cut in the corners with a paintbrush and then roll the remainder of the garage floor with a paint roller. For ease of use, try a roller attached to a long handle. Be sure to start in the back of the garage and work your way out.

    • 4

Clean up brush, roller and tray quickly with warm soapy water, as the sealer will permanently damage tools if not washed out. Do not apply a second coat.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't walk or drive on the garage floor for at least one day after sealing.
