    • 1

Many people who suffer from a twisted colon have a chronic constipation history or other digestive ailments that need to be treated with a healthy dosage of fiber and water in their diet.

Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day and eat a fiber rich diet to help regulate and cleanse the intestines of fecal matter that can create obstructions, causing bowel movement problems and abdominal pain.

    • 2

Create a healthy diet. High fiber foods, such as whole grains and breads, fresh fruits, dark leafy greensand vegetables, are easier for the intestine to digest, especially if it is twisted. Eliminate harsh meats and processed foods because a twisted colon cannot process these foods efficiently.

    • 3

Get a colon cleansing at least three times a year. Twisted colon suffers can benefit from colon cleansing with an herbal colon cleanser product or store bought cleanser because its ingredients liquefy fecal matter, preventing future colon blockages and digestive problems.

    • 4

Get daily exercise. The benefits of exercise on the digestive system are helpful in reducing twisted colon symptoms. Daily exercise, including cardiovascular fitness, can stimulate blood flow in the abdominal by relieving gastrointestinal problems and chronic pain associated with a twisted colon.

    • 5

Consider surgical treatment options if twisted colon is severe. Many patients with twisted colon undergo a colonoscopy, a procedure that uses a tube to enter either the nose of the stomach or the anus, in efforts to relieve abdominal distention and chronic vomiting. Emergency surgical options will be considered on behalf of a digestive specialist to determine whether a patient may need other medical treatments for a twisted colon or for any underlying digestive problems.
