1
Place your unopened bottles of wine in a dark, safe location away from bright lights. The UV rays in light can infiltrate your bottle and begin to deteriorate the quality of the taste of your wine, making it undrinkable. For longer storage, putting your wine bottles on a wine storage rack or in a wine storage cabinet in a basement would be best.

2
Store your unopened wine bottles in an environment with a temperature of approximately 50 to 55 degrees Fahrenheit. The properties of the wine will deteriorate quickly in conditions too hot and can reduce the maximum storage time significantly. Placing them in a wine storage cabinet can be an excellent way to control and maintain temperature, but learn how to use the cabinet correctly for optimum conditions for your wine. Wine can be stored for a few years with proper care.

Check the humidity levels where your wine is stored, as this will keep the cork moist from the outside and maintain the wine's quality. A humidity level of 70 percent would be sufficient. Some wine storage cabinets can monitor the humidity levels for you or you can purchase a commercial indoor air quality meter from your hardware store. Store your bottles horizontally so the cork can be kept moist from the inside. The cork is important for allowing oxygen to enter into the wine and improve the aging process.

Tips & Warnings
Avoid placing your wine bottle on top of refrigerators or in locations that might be exposed to vibrations as this will cause the chemicals in the wine to mix, diminishing the quality of your wine.
When your bottle of wine is opened, it can be stored safely in the refrigerator for about two days.
