How to Make Flash 8 Games

Though programming with Flash 8 can become complicated, creating a Flash game does not need to involve any programming. Instead, you can use game templates, which involves loading an existing game and changing it. Several websites let you make a Flash game this way. Regardless of the website used, the basic game-making process is the same: using a game template, create or change the background, goal pieces, obstacles, enemies, weapons and other game parts. Play the game every so often to check your work, then resume editing until all the levels of your game are done.

Instructions

    • 1

Surf to one of the websites listed in the resources section of this article. Play some of the games on the site to discover the kind of game you'd like to create. Play some of the games created by other site visitors also.

    • 2

Select a game to change. Click the icon for the game's template to load it. Give the game some time to load for the first playing-editing session, if the game requires it.

    • 3

Skim the site's instructions for designing the game. Locate these instructions under the game's canvas (background). Pass the mouse pointer over parts of the canvas if you don't immediately see the instructions.

    • 4

Test play the game template before making any changes to it, using the design area's "Test" or "Play" button. Notice if there are too many or few obstacles, goals or other key game pieces.

    • 5

Load the game for editing by pressing the "Edit" button. Click the "Click here when you are done" button if your game site shows that instead.

    • 6

Drag obstacles, goals, environment pieces and enemies from the pane to the left of the game canvas, onto the canvas.

Create copies of pieces you've dragged onto the canvas by either shift-dragging them or clicking their stamp icon.

    • 7

Test play the game periodically. Ensure the game isn't so challenging as to prevent players from reaching the next level.

    • 8

Create another level for the game by clicking the "Add Level" button. Use the foregoing steps to create the new level, ensuring the new level is more challenging than the previous one.

    • 9

Save and publish your game to let others play and comment on your game. Spend some time reading the comments to form ideas on improving the game. Make your own comments on the games of others.

    • 10

Revise your game using the new ideas you've formed from the comments.
