How to Remove Batteries Stuck in a Flashlight

As the batteries in flashlights age, they tend to get stuck in the battery compartment. When the time comes to replace the dead batteries, this can pose a problem when attempting to remove them. With just a screwdriver, you can avoid having to throw the flashlight out and having to purchase a new one to replace it. Does this Spark an idea?

      Unscrew the battery compartment and try to shake the battery loose. Tap the bottom of the compartment against a hard surface to jar them loose.

      Unscrew the top of the flashlight. Remove the reflector (shiny silver part), bulb and fuse by either pulling them out or, on some models, unscrewing them from the flashlight. This will give you a narrow hole straight to the battery compartment.

      Use the screwdriver to poke through the hole in the top of the battery compartment and push the batteries out through the bottom of the compartment.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the battery is stuck due to a leak in the battery itself, due not attempt to remove it. Properly dispose of the entire flashlight to prevent injuries and chemical burns.
