How to Survive Long Hours at Manufacturing Jobs
Spending long hours each day at a manufacturing job is hard for a person who stands in one spot all day doing repetitive work. Many companies today are going to four longer days instead of five shorter ones in order to cut costs. The longer days are hard on manufacturing laborers. Spending long hours at a manufacturing job can be painful---and the pain can affect workers' emotional well-being. There are, however, a few simple things workers can do to alleviate or prevent the pain associated with factory work.

Take frequent drinks of water to stay hydrated. Becoming dehydrated leads to dizziness, muscle aches, skin problems, allergies, depression and digestive problems like heartburn and constipation.

2
Eat at least a small snack every two hours to keep blood sugar levels as even as possible. This reduces the likelihood of getting a headache or an injury due to dizziness.

3
Stretch periodically, following the instructions on the poster or wallet card of ergonomic stretches for the workplace. Performing ergonomic exercises at least once during a long shift reduces pain and stiffness and helps prevent repetitive stress injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome.
