How to Add Audio to a DVD Photo Slideshow

Taking pictures and sharing them with others is something that has been done for years. Now, in this age of digital technology, it is possible to show those images on a DVD slideshow set to your favorite song. Using video editing software, you can create a video that shows your photos while a song of your choice plays in the background.

Using some sort of video editing software, you will need to create your photo slideshow. Applications like iMovie work well for this sort of thing, but you can use almost any legitimate video editing program like Adobe Premiere, Apple Final Cut Pro or Sony Vegas. All of these programs have the same basic interface and will allow you to drag and drop photos into a timeline. This timeline window will show you what your video will look like when you export it as a digital movie file. Adding effects like the "Ken Burns" effect are easy to do, especially in iMovie, and can help add motion and movement to your photos. Most video editing applications have some sort of feature that will allow you to do this.

Once you have created the video part of your slideshow, you will want to select a song to add to it. Find a song that is in the "MP3" format and import it into your workspace in your video editing program. You will then be able to drag and drop your music file into the timeline (just as you dragged and dropped your photos). There will be an audio section in your timeline (and a video section); drop your music file into the audio part (it should be the lower section). Start the music at the beginning of your slideshow, so as to allow all of the visuals to be set to music. Using the tools in your video editing application, tweak your audio track however you wish; add crossfades or turn up the volume. Adjust your audio track to match your photos if you'd like.

Open up your DVD burning application. Import your video slideshow file and add it to your DVD project. Most DVD burning software programs have pre-made templates that you can choose from to make your DVD look more professional. These templates also make it very easy to create your DVD movie from scratch. Once you have added your video to your DVD template, go ahead and burn it. Your newly burned DVD will have your photo slideshow with the audio track that you chose.
