How to Get Non-Permanent Hair Dye Out

A risk always exists when coloring your hair. While less risky than using permanent hair color, temporary and semi-permanent hair color is not guaranteed to turn out as expected. Often times, the hair dye is too dark in the beginning, which causes people to panic. The great thing is that there are steps to drastically fade or remove non-permanent hair color from the hair. As it takes up to 72 hours for hair color to penetrate the hair shaft, it's best to try this as soon as possible after coloring. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Shampoo your hair with dandruff shampoo or a shampoo that contains tea tree oil. Make sure that the water is extremely hot. It opens up the cuticles, allowing you to remove more of the hair color. Thoroughly rinse the shampoo from your hair.

    • 2

Apply a deep conditioner to your hair. While trying to remove the hair dye from your hair, you will also be removing essential oils and moisture as well. It's important to add moisture back into the hair. Leave the deep conditioner on your hair for at least three to five minutes. Rinse the conditioner from your hair.

    • 3

Apply warm olive oil to the hair. It helps to strip chemical color from the hair. Comb the oil through your hair. Leave it in for a minimum of one hour. It can be left on the hair for several hours.

    • 4

Rinse the olive oil out of your hair using extremely hot water. This may take some time. Shampoo your hair again with the dandruff shampoo or shampoo containing tea tree oil.

    • 5

Deep condition the hair again. It's not necessary to leave it on longer than one minute at this point as the olive oil has conditioning properties. Rinse the deep conditioner out of your hair.

    • 6

Repeat the regimen daily for the next four days if the non-permanent hair color has not been removed by this time. If it has not been removed after the four days, do not continue the regimen. Contact a professional.
